Saga Dawa Festival be Celebrated on May 21st in 2012

Saga Dawa Festival – one of the most solemn Tibetan festivals would be celebrated in April according to the Tibetan calendar. This religious festival is of great significance for the followers of Tibetan Buddhism in Tibet Autonomous Region. Tibet Tourism Bureau selected 21 couples across the country and holds a holy wedding ceremony for them in Shannan Prefecture – the cradle of Tibetan civilization.

It is recorded that the Saga Dawa Festival was greatly related to the founder of Buddhism – Sakyamuni. April 15th is the birthday and nirvana day of Sakyamuni. There is a large number of followers of Buddhism would make a pilgrimage to Trundruk Monastery in Shannan Prefecture – one of the oldest monasteries in Tibet on Saga Dawa Festival.

The first palace in Shannan Prefecture – Yumbu Lakhang, is also one of the summer palaces of Songtsen Gampo and Princess Wencheng. Yumbu Lakhang witnessed the love story of Songtsen Gampo and Princess.

The Tibetan prayer flags flying on Yumbu Lakhang formed beautiful scenery. Most of the couples hold that Tibet is the place where is quite near from the sky. They are very happy to pray for their marriage.

Saga Dawa Festival, also called Auspicious Day would be celebrated on April 15th according to Tibetan calendar. It is a traditional festival of Tibetan Buddhism which would be celebrated with various religious activities in the whole month of April. Alms giving on Saga Dawa have become a tradition for the Tibetans in Lhasa. Tourists planning to join the Lhasa tours during the Saga Dawa Festival could witness the magnificent scene.

Saga Dawa Festival is a holy festival for the followers of Tibetan Buddhism. It has close relationship with the founder of Tibetan Buddhism – Sakyamuni. He was born on April 15th according to Tibetan calendar. Various celebrations would be held in the Tibetan Buddhism monasteries.
