The tourism project named Tibet Tour in Winter was launched a few days ago. Tibet Tour in Winter was started on October 15th and will last to April 4th 2013.

Relevant departments would launch several marketing promotions to attract more tourists to make a Tibet tour in winter, including the 4th Tibet Tourism Image Ambassadors Contest, the New Year Concert on the Roof of the World and the Wedding on the Holy Land. All these activities will create a rich winter tour atmosphere and make Tibet more passionate and hilarious in the cold winter.

The season limit has been one of the largest problems for the development of Tibet tourism. Generally, 90 percent of the tourists would come to Tibet between May and October. The number of tourists would decrease rapidly after October. A number of hotels, restaurants and travel agencies in Tibet would suspense their business between November and April of the next year since Tibet tourism is always in a depression during this period.

Though summer is regarded as the best season to make a Tibet tour, winter is not a bad season to visit Tibet. Actually, Tibet is not si cold as tourists' imagine before arrive in Tibet. The warm sunshine made the temperature on Tibet Plateu higher than several other cities in North China during the daytime in winter. It is reported that the temperarure in Lhasa was 5? higher than that of Beijing during the daytime in last winter. Tourists making a Tibet tour in winter would have the chance to witness some magnificent natural landscape which is not available in any other season.

It should be noted that a lot of Tibetan traditional festivals would be celebrated in winter, such as the Illumination Festival, Butter Lantern Festival, Evil Driving-off Festival and some other religious festibal. It seems that winter has been the best season to experience the local folk customs and explore the mysterious Tibetan tradional culture. The relevant department is planing to attach more importance on the advertise of these local festivals and make more tourists interested in the local traditions.
