Ecological Protection Promoted the Development of Tibet Tourism

Widely noted as the Third Pole of the world, Tibet keeps enhancing its ecological construction recent years. The water, air, soil, radiation and noise, as well as the quality of the ecological environment are controlled in a good condition. The improvement of the ecological protection greatly promoted the development of the Tibet tourism.

Tourists who've been to Tibet hold that a visit to Tibet is well worth. The picturesque natural landscapes of holy lakes and mountains always impressed the tourists a lot. According to a domestic tourist who visited Tibet recently, the pleasant ecological environment on Tibet Plateau is capable to make tourist be reluctant to leave. It is reported that Tibet has received more than 10 million tourists from different corners of the world in 2012.

Tibet is located in southwestern China with an average altitude of higher than 4000 meters. Numerous rivers flow through Tibet Plateau and there are also various lakes. It is even praised as the "water tower of Asia" and "climate-conditioner of the world" for it plays important role in the global ecological development.

According to the Ecological Protection Department of Tibet Autonomous Region, a series of measures regarding the ecological protection and construction have been adopted for a long time. Basic works on the ecological protection, such as survey of the environmental status, general investigation for the pollution source, ecological function zoning and investigation of the soil contamination. The quantum of the water pollutant discharge is effectively controlled, the water environment quality is in a good condition and some of the rivers and lakes are still in a primary state according to the investigation statistics.

In addition, Tibet Autonomous Region also carried out a series of effective ecological protection and construction projects to structure a state-level ecological safety barrier, such as the establishment of the three national natural parks (Yarlung Zangbo Grand Canyon National Park, Namtso Lake National Park and Mt. Everest National Park).

The content of the atmospheric particulates at Namtso Lake Scenic Area is pretty low according to the statistics provided by the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau Research Institution of Chinese Academy of Science, the average annual optical thickness of the atmospheric aerosol here is only 0.029. Hence, Namtao Lake is one of few regions which could be on a par with the South Pole with the cleanest atmospheric Environment.

It is reported that the development of Tibet tourism will be integrated with the ecological protection so as to ensure the sustainable development between the tourism and environment. Tibet is on the way to improve itself to a world level tourism destination which integrates the plateau zoology and Tibetan folk customs.
