A Divided Period of History of Tibet - Brief Introduction

According to Tibet record, there was a troublous period from 869 AD to 1239 AD. During the 370 years, the unified regime was never established. One of the descendants of Zampo (another name of king) was praised as a leader in Hehuang region of Qing-Tibet Plateau, and other region was controlled by local leaders, some of which are emerging clans, some are the descendants of nobles of Tu Bo Dynasty. The Sates of Ladak and Guge were known in the history. In the meanwhile, the feudal serfdom has been enforced everywhere in Tibet region.

A Divided Period of History of Tibet - the Development of Buddhism

During the divided period, the Buddhism has been developed again after the death of Londama. In Tibetan record, three monks had escaped from the troubled region of Lhasa to Dandou Temple of Qinghai Province, later found a Buddhist center in Hehuang region. As the Buddhist center became popular, one of the local leaders sent officials there in 936 in order to renewal Buddhism in northeastern Tibet. And then other leaders began to propagandize Buddhism gradually in Tibet region and sent young people to India to learn Buddhism. Thus Buddhism has become important part in Tibetan's daily life after the reign of Londama.

On the other hand, different religious sect has been formed as the combination of each local force and Buddhist temple. Some Buddhist temples owned territory and people. There was a difference that people worshiped Buddha during the period of Tu Bo Dynasty but changed to adore the patriarch (the founder of a religious sect) of a religion during this time. After years, Buddhism has conformed Tibet local custom which created a long unique Buddhism history.

A Divided Period of History of Tibet - Foreign Relations

There were many Indian Buddhist came into Tibet to Propaganda dharma during the divided period of Tibet. In the meanwhile, some Buddhists of religious sects of Tibet region went to other regions of Qing-Tibet Plateau to introduce Tibetan Buddhism, some of which were praised as senior officials by other States. For the foreign relations, the culture and economy of Tibet has been developed and improved quickly. Many goods and commercial intercourse appeared in ancient Tibetan market.
