In January in Tibetan Calendar, there are Tibetan New Year Festival, Great Prayer Festival and Butter Lantern Festival.
The Tibetan New Year Festival will start from the first day in January and last for one week. In Tibetan Language, Tibetan New Year Festival is named "Luosai" Festival.
The Great Prayer festival will be held in the period from January 3rd or January 4th to January 15th in Tibetan Calendar. It is held to commemorate Sakyamuni. In Tibetan Language, it is named "Molang Qinmao".
The Butter Lantern Festival will be held on January 15th in Tibetan Calendar.
In February in Tibetan Calendar, there are Seeing Evil Spirits out Festival, Treasure Exhibition Festival and Quchong.
Seeing Evil Spirits out Festival will be held on February 7th in Tibetan Calendar. On the day, Tibetans will drive people who dressed up like a ghost to the opposite bank of Daxia River, and this people should go back seven days later.
The Treasure Exhibition Festival is held on February 8th. On the day, Tibetans will exhibit giant Buddha statue and various treasures.
Quchong is held in the later half month of February. It is also named Small Prayer Festival. It is the day to exhibit Tangar Buddha and precious things in three great monasteries.
The most important Tibetan traditional festival in March of 2013 is Vajra Festival. It is held on March 15th. It is held to commemorate the first day of the first circle in Tibetan Calendar (From Fire Rabbit Year to 1027).
In April, the grandest Tibetan traditional festival is Saga Dawa Festival.
Tibetan Saga Dawa Festival will be held on the bank of Dragon King Pool on April 15th in Tibetan Calendar. It is the day when Sakyamuni born, became Buddha and passed away, as well as the day when Princess Wencheng came into Tibet.
There are several important festivals in May, such as Sangji Laman Festival, Lingka Festival and Zhida Deqin Festival.
Sangji Laman Festival is held on May 5th in Tibetan Calendar. According to legends, the God of medicine will drop holy water and effective medicines. Tibetans should go to mountains to pick up medicines on the day.
Lingka Festival is held from May 1st to May 20th. It will reach climax on May 15th. Based on legends, it is the day when gods in the world come down. The activities in Lingka Festival include worshipping gods and having fun in Lingka.
Zhida Deqin Festival is held on May 10th. It is the birthday of Padmasambhava. Shannan and other prefectures of Tibet will hold celebration activities. This festival will be celebrated in large scale every 12 years.
Tibetan traditional festivals in June include Danyi Deqin and Gyantse Darma Festival.
Danyi Deqin is held on June 4th. It is the day when Sakyamuni passed on Four Great Sutra" through oral instruction. On the day, Tibetans will worship mountain, chant scripture and light up lanterns.
Gyantse Darma Festival which is held on June 10th will last for one week. It is distinctive traditional festival in Gyantse. During Darma Festival, Tibetans in Gyantse will gather at the mountain foot of Zongshan Mountain to hold various sports performances and competitions.
