Panchen Erdeni is highly respected by Tibetan people with Dalai Lama in Tibet Gelug Sect. Panchen Erdeni mainly influenced a lot in southern Tibet. Tibetan people believed that Panchen Erdeni is the reincarnation of Amitabha, Dalai Lama is the reincarnation of Avalokitesvara, Mongolian Khan is the reincarnation of Vajrapani, and the Emeperor of Qing Dynasty is the reincarnation of Manjushri. In 1713, The 5th Panchen Lama was conferred as the Panchen Erdeni. Erdeni is the Manchu lanague and literally means the jewelry. Since then on, Panchen Lama has been called Panchen Erdeni. The preaching place of Panchen Erdeni's is Tashilhunpo Monastery.
The 1st Panchen Erdeni is named Khedrup Gelebasang. Khedrup Gelebasang is the disciple of Tsongkhapa – the founder of Gelug Sect and highly respect by all the Tibetans. He died in 1438 and subsequently confirmed as the 1st Panchen Erdeni in 1645.
The 2nd Panchen Erdeni is named Ensa Sonam Qyuelang. He was born in Shigatse in 1439. He died in 1504 and subsequently confirmed as the 2nd Panchen Erdeni.
The 3rd Panchen Erdeni is named losang Danzhu. He was born in the Shigatse region and being a family member of the 2nd Panchen Erdeni.
The 4th Panchen Erdeni is named Losang Qyege Gyantsen. He was born in Shigatse and died in Tashilhunpo Monastery when he was 92 years old.
The 5th Panchen Erdeni is named Losang Yixi. He was invited to Tashilhunpo Monastery in 1667.
The 6th Panchen Erdeni is named Danyixi. He was born in southern Tibet in 1738 and died in Beijing Huangsi Temple in 1780.
The 7th Panchen Erdeni is named Danpai Nima. He was born in 1782 in southern Tibet and died in 1853 in Tashilhunpo Monastery. He was the disciple of the 8th Dalai Lama and the master of the 9th Dalai Lama, the 10th Dalai Lama, and the 11th Dalai Lama.
The 8th Panchen Erdeni is named Danpai Wongxiu. He was born in 1855 and died in 1883.
The 9th Panchen Erdeni is named Qyuge Nima. He was born in 1883 and died in 1937. He was confirmed as the 9th Panchen Erdeni in Potala Palace in 1888. He took the 13th Dalai Lama as his master. Afterwards, he resisted the British invasion with the 13th Dalai Lama together.
The 10th Panchen Erdeni is named Losang Qyege Gyantsen. He was born in 1938 in Qinghai Province and died in 1989. He was confirmed as the 10th Panchen Lama in 1949 in Tar Monastery in Qinghai Province. Tibet was unstable at that time when he grew up. Even though he was a little child at that time, he was influenced by the politics.
The 11th Panchen Erdeni is named Qyege Gyepu. He was confirmed as the 11th Panchen Erdeni in 1995.
