During the time of the 5th century DC, Sakyamuni (the founder of Buddhism) established the Buddhism in India while spread into Tibet region during the time of Tu Bo Dynasty.

Early Tibet Buddhism of Tu Bo Dynasty - Songtsen Gampo

Songtsen Gampo is considered to be the first of the three Dharma Kings - Songtsen Gampo, Trisong Detsen, and Ralpacan - who established Buddhism in Tibet.

Songtsen Gampo is traditionally credited with being the first to bring Buddhism to the Tibetan people. He is also said to have built many Buddhist temples, including the Jokhang Temple in Lhasa, the city in which he is credited in one tradition with founding and establishing as his capital. During his reign, Buddhist texts have been translated from Sanskrit into Tibetan.

Early Tibet Buddhism of Tu Bo Dynasty – First Disaster of Buddhism

In the year of 755 AD, a young Tsampo ascended the throne while the noblemen started to banish the Buddhism.

Firstly, Buddhism was prohibited in the whole Tibet region by ordered.

Secondly, Expel the Buddhists of Han People and Nepal Buddhists.

Thirdly, Jokhang Temple had been changed into the slaughterhouse.

Fourthly, the Buddha Statue of Sakyamuni had been moved from Tibet Region.

Fifthly, destroy the Buddhism Temples.

Early Tibet Buddhism of Tu Bo Dynasty - Jokhang Temple

Situated in the center of the old city of Lhasa, Jokhang Temple is the first Buddhist temple in Tibet. It is also the Sacred Temple of all Tibetan Buddhists. All year-round many Tibetan Buddhists go on a pilgrimage to Lhasa, from all over Tibet and other provinces like Qinghai, Gansu and Inner Mongolia, and their destination is the Jokhang Temple.

In the middle of the seventh century, the great Tibetan King of the Tu Bo Kingdom, Songtsen Gampo (617- 650 AD) married the Nepalese Princess Tritsun and the Chinese Princess Wencheng, each of whom brought into Tibet a statue of Sakyamuni.
