Tingri County is located in south border of China at the foot of Himalaya Mountain Range. It borders to Tingjie and Sakya in east, Nyelam County in west, Angren County in north, Latse County in Northeast and Nepal in south.
During Tibet tour to Mt. Everest Base Camp, tourists usually spend a night in Tingri as it is the best location to overview Mt. Everest. It is also the closest place to Mt. Everest which is better for photography.
There are two forest scenic spots in Tingri County - Rongxia scenic spot and Gama scenic spot. The fall difference is about 6200 meters from the foot to the top. 6 different mountain vertical ecological systems consist of Tingri forest attraction.
As the special terrain and various climate acted on Tingri County, there are large numbers of wild flora and fauna. Because of little man-made damage in the area, some rare endangered species are still alive and protected well here such as Himalaya tahr, langur, snow leopard, brown monal, Lophura leucomelana, and Tibetan Snowcock, etc. In the meanwhile, over 200 kinds of valuable Chinese herbal medicines such as Chinese caterpillar fungus, Picrorhiza kurroa, Snow Lotus Herb and gastrodia elata are full of Tingri County.
Because Tingri County is close to Mt. Everest where the original natural environment is protected by national government, the accommodation condition in Tingri is not as good as in Lhasa, Shigatse, or Nyingchi. There are only few star-standard hotels in Tingri and some guesthouses. The facilities and equipments are not really fantastic as in other domestic cities of China such as Chongqing, Chengdu, Beijing, or Shanghai. Therefore, some tourists who plan to visit Mt. Everest usually take their own sleeping bags and live in the tent.
With the strong plateau ultraviolet rays the temperature is relatively lower in Tingri. The annual mean temperature is about 2.8-3.9 ?. The coldest month is January with the average temperature of -7.4 ?. The hottest month is July with the average temperature of 12?. The extreme highest temperature is 24.8?, while the extreme lowest temperature is -27.7?. The annual precipitation is about 319mm, which the highest precipitation in a year is about 474.3mm, the fewest precipitation is about 104.9mm. 95% of the rainfall appears in June, July, August, September and October.
Xegar Town is the largest town of Mt. Everest protection zone with a long history. The ancient castles at the top the mountain were built in 13th century. Qude Monastery was originally constructed in 1645.
Mt. Everest is 8844.43 meters high, the highest mountain of the world. It is shade of huge pyramid, very majestic and amazing. Climbing to the top of Mt. Everest is the goal of mountaineering expeditions and explorers during their whole life.
Located at the foot of Mt. Everest, Rongbuk Monastery is 2010 meters high, which is the highest monastery of the world. Rongbuk Monastery is believed and mastered by Tibetan Nyingma Sect, constructed in 1901. Across from the Mt. Everest , it is the best place to take photos and also the only which must be passed toward Mt. Everest Base Camp.
