Pulan County Terrain

Pulan County - Introduction

Pulan County covers a relatively limited area along the Kongqi River with a proper plateau climate. It is surrounded by numerous snow mountains and holy lakes, which Mt. Kailash and Lake Mapam Yumco (Lake Manasarovar) attract lots of tourists to visit.

This county is actually about 10 kilometers away from the boundary of China and Nepal, 398 kilometers away from the Lion River in north. Many pilgrims from home and abroad, and business men would like to enter to Tibet via Pulan County besides Zham Port and Yatong County. In addition, more and more tourists are attracted to come here to visit the snow mountains and holy lakes.

Even though there are Chinese Custom and frontier inspection available in Pulan County, it is not the official entry and exit port of China. You are highly suggested to indicate that you are going ahead to Nepal from Pulan, otherwise you will be refused to go out even you hold your Nepal visa.

After you go through Pulan County, it will take you 2 days to be arrival in Nepal through an alley of Himalaya Mountain.

Pulan County - Religion

The common feature of most religious sects is pilgrimage. With a devout and strong wish, believers go ahead to a holy place which commonly acknowledged following a confirmed and mysterious route.

Mt. Kailash is meanwhile regarded as the city center by Tibetan Buddhism, Hinduism, Bon Sect, and ancient jainism. Bon Sect was originally created from here. The name of Mt. Kailash literally means the Deities' Mountain, which in Sanskrit it refers to Siva's Heaven.

Pulan County - Food

The special local food of Pulan County is Butter tea, cow leather, wool and carp, etc.

Butter Tea

Besides the beef and mutton, Butter tea is the most favorable food of Tibetans, which can be seen everywhere in Tibet. The butter is extracted from the cow and the sheep.

Firstly heat the milk of the cow and the sheep, and put it into the big hogshead which is especially made about 4 feet high. Then whip the milk with a special tool for hundred times until isolated the milk and the oil. Next the oil floating upper will be pour into the bag and refrigerate. The butter tea is made successfully.

Pulan County - Attraction

The well known attractions in Pulan County are Mt. Kailash, Lake Mapam Yunco, Lake Lantso, ancient Pulan market, Indian pilgrims, Pulan singing and dancing, Pulan clothing, etc.

Ancient Palace

Numerous of cave dwellings and old pavilions consist of ancient palace hanging at the hillside, which looks like a huge honeycomb. Many prayer flags are hanging out of the ancient palace.

Kekya Monastery

It was originally built in the 11th Century, located about 18 kilometers away from the county center. It was believed by Gamdam Sect but later on belong to Sakya Sect. There is a Manjushri worshiped by people inside. It is said that when transit the Manjushri to Gar, Manjushri suddenly broke silence and then told people he would like to stay in Kekya. Hence the hall was especially constructed for him since then.

Women Dressing

Pulan women will dress the most precious clothes and decorations during the festival, such as the gold, silver, rammel, agate, coral, and pearl. The dressing is so valuable that values one hundred thousand Yuan to millions Yuan. They weight over 5 kilograms.
