Lotsa County

Lotsa County is situated in the south part of Tibet and the south part of Himalaya Mountain Range. It is one of the boundary counties in Tibet Autonomous Region. It covers an area of 4426 square kilometers. The coverage of the water area is about 400 square kilometers. The agricultural acreage is approximately 30000 mu (1 mu ≈ 0.0007 square kilometers). The pasture area is about 2300000 mu.

Lotsa County in Tibet – Geography

It is located in the valley area of Lake Basin which belongs to one of the mountains of southern Himalaya Mountain Range. The terrain of Lotsa County is higher in the northwest part but lower in the southeast part. There are 6 mountains which are over 6000 meters high. The highest mountain is 7538 meters and the lowest one is 2740 meters. The average elevation is 3820 meters high.

Lotsa County is characteristic of the water system of Yarlung Zangbo River. Yarlung Zangbo River looks like a huge silver dragon originated from the snow mountains of the middle part of the Himalaya Mountain. The mountain is over 5300 meters high. Yarlung Zangbo River flows through the south part of Qinghai-Tibet Plateau – the roof of the world and finally flows into the Bay of Bengal via India and Bangladesh. It is approximately 2057 kilometers long in China, which accounts for the No. 5 longest river in China. The natural hydroenergy of Yarlung Zangbo River is 79116000 kilowatt, which accounts for the No. 2 in China. The one owns the largest hydroenergy is Yangtze River. The riverbed of Yarlung Zangbo River is over 3000 meters high, which is the highest river throughout the world.

Lotsa County in Tibet – Climate

Lotsa County is located in the plateau temperature semi-arid monsoon climate zone of southern Tibet. It is characteristic of the Subtropical semi-humid and moist climate features. There is a lot of rainfall but less sunshine. The northwest part of Lotsa County is the plateau temperature semi-arid monsoon climate zone featuring less rainfall but lots of strong wind. The climate there is very dry. The frostless period lasts about 100 days. The duration of sunshine is 2800 hours in a year. The annual precipitation is about 400 mm. There is much rainfall in southeast than it in northwest.

Lotsa County in Tibet – Transportation and Mineral Resource

The roads are all opened to traffic in Lotsa County. The highway mileage is 644 kilometers long.

In addition, the mineral resource includes the magnetite and berg crystal. What's more, Lotsa County is rich in the resources of the water conservancy, wind power and solar energy.

Lotsa County in Tibet – Attraction

Sanga Gudo Monastery

Sanga Gudo Monastery was constructed in the late 11th Century. It is the ancestral monastery of White Sect (Kagyu Sect). The architecture features play a very important role in Tibet Buddhism history.

Lalong Monastery

Lalong Monastery was built in the 12th Century during Tubo Dynasty. It was highly respected by Red Sect (Nyingma Sect). There are large numbers of precious historic relics in Lalong Monastery. It is about 20 kilometers far from the center of Lotsa County.
