Gyirong

Gyirong

Gyirong County is located in southwest part of Tibet with a population of 10000. In north part of Gyirong County, it is the plateau basin. In south part of Gyirong County, it is deep mountains and valleys, which stretch to the boundary of Himalaya Mountain Range and Shisha Pangma Mountain Peak.

Gyirong County covers 12000 square kilometers with boundary line of 162 kilometers long. The Gyirong County center features a lake basin terrain of 4200 meters high and about 490 kilometers away from the city center of Shigatse, which was originally formed during the 3rd-4th century. It is wide in south but narrow in south. If you overview Gyirong County from far away during Tibet tour, there are totally snow mountains in east, west and north. But if you travel closer to this county, different colorful stratum appears on the bare hillside.

Gyirong Attraction

Gongtang Kingdom Relic

It was originally constructed about the 11th century, situated in the southeast of Gyirong County. It is very interesting that Gongtang Kingdom Relic was firstly built by the 6th emperor of Gongtang Kingdom but completed by the 17th emperor.

Tuni Ancient Road

It is a very important traffic hub to Nepal and India from Tibet. Tu means Tubo Dynasty of Tibet history, Ni means Nepal. Therefore the road connected to Nepal called Tuni Ancient Road.

Jipu Garden

It is located in a forest about 1.2 kilometers away from the Gyirong County. It has the oldest and longest history of Tibet, which is also the only one small manor preserved well as of now.

Reso Bridge Relics

It is situated at the boundary of China and Nepal. The fortifications of Qing Dynasty are still remained well on one side of Reso Bridge. Since 1977, a new Reso Bridge has been constructed by China people and Nepalese together.
